In June 2000, Columbia University, Princeton University and The New York Public Library signed a partnership agreement to jointly construct and operate a remote high-density book shelving facility. The newly formed partnership is officially entitled The Research Collections and Preservation (ReCAP) Consortium, Inc. In July 2016, Harvard Library joined as ReCAP's first Associate Member and in 2019 it became a full member of the consortium. These research libraries have agreed to store collections at ReCAP to ensure preservation of the printed record, and to work together to build collections and enhance access to their holdings through cooperative efforts.
